Not long ago, I was asked by a gentleman if I ever wrote about government corruption. Well, I suppose sometimes I do, but I'm certainly not out to win any Pulitzer Prize. You see, I indicated I was an online article author, and a prolific one at that. He told me that he was trying to get the word out about some unfortunate government corruption which had taken place between the teachers union and one of the California school districts. The story sounded terrible, and there were some lawsuits involved. Okay so let's talk about this story for second because I'd like to get into a deeper ethical discussion about it all.
First, the individual involved, was a lady, a schoolteacher, and although she did file a lawsuit, she didn't want to take it to the media. The reason being is that she liked her job, enjoyed being a teacher. It didn't want to burn any bridges or her future career potential. Apparently the court system helped stave off her firing, even though she blew the whistle on a few less-than-scrupulous district administrators. She didn't even want to bring the case, but she wanted her job, she had no choice.
